437. Our visit to Chennai – IV

Our visit to temples in Kancheepuram continued on 18th June 2018 evening. Next, we visited Ashta Bhuja Perumal temple, which is one of the 108 divya desa perumal temples. This is the only Vishnu temple with a Mangalasasanam dedicated exclusively for Mother Alarmel Mangai. The Perumal in this sthalam is Sri Aadhikesava Perumal and he is seen with 8 hands. He holds Chakaram, Sword, a Flower and an Arrow on the 4 right hands and Sangu, Bow, Kedayam (which is used to protect while fighting using a sword) and Gadha (Which can be found along with Hanuman and Bhima).  It is believed that Prathyaksham for Gajendran, an Elephant has happened  in this sthalam(Gajendra Moksham).

Next, we visited Alagiya Singer Perumal temple.  Ig is one of the 108 divya desa perumal temples.  Goddess Saraswathi sent a demon called Kapalika to disrupt the Yagna done by Brahma . Lord Vishnu took the form of Narahari to kill the demon. This is the place where Lord Vishnu resided at happily and hence this place is called as ThiruVelukkai, where Vel refers to “wish” and Irukkai refers to “residence”. It is said that Lord Vishnu appeared to the sage Bhrigu Maharishi in the form of Azhagiya Singar. There is a separate shrine found for Goddess Amruthavalli, the consort of Lord Sri Azhagiya Singar.

Our final visit was to Vaikunda Perumal temple on this day.  Vaikunta Perumal Temple or Thiru Parameswara Vinnagaram is a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. It is one among the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Vaikuntanathan (Lord Paramapadanathan) and his consort Lakshmi as Vaikundavalli.  It is believed that Lord Vishnu taught 18 different arts to Parameswara Varman in his standing posture and on his grand sitting posture he made advises to him as an Aacharya would do to his disciple and finally got into his sleeping posture so as to be served by parameswara varman as a disciple would do to his Guru. We can see all His three postures in this 3 tiered temple.
