531. Why do some people choose tough career?

Every job has an inherent level of risk associated with the work, as sometimes safety is not fully in the hands of the employee. Some people work well under pressure without distraction due to their keen sense of awareness for their environment and detail orientation. Moreover, their interest and involvement in the job make them more comfortable than others.

Some professions are difficult in the sense that they require a high level of skill that must be developed through many years of study and practice. On the other hand, some other jobs might not require such high skill levels, but they are known to be extremely stressful and sometimes traumatic.

Hard workers think of work as a required and pleasurable obligation. They by nature choose tough jobs and do it with full dedication. Some job seekers are more willing to sacrifice a big paycheck and a more comfortable lifestyle for a work environment where they are highly valued and given more long-term opportunities. They want to prove themselves in work, by taking risk.

The best risk-takers make career decisions by combining gut instinct with critical thinking.  While gaining deep expertise in a field may seem like the path to growth, adding a greater breadth of skills and experience can open up more opportunities and accelerate the career.

Some people are not satisfied with the job they perform. they ask for more and more work, as they want to learn more. They are not bothered about the rewards and recognition they get for their work.  Only bold moves can get us out of real ruts. We should not be afraid and move away from the cushy trap of “what you know.” Taking risk doesn’t mean that we won’t say “No” for anything.  We should pursue every opportunity that comes up to get us moving in the direction of our bliss. Even baby steps in the direction of happiness are better than no steps at all. We should take each step cheerfully, without bothering about the result.

Some people want to achieve something in life, by putting all the efforts and taking all the risks. We should identify them and give proper respect & reward them in the right way.

508. There are no unanswered prayers

We pray to God with or without any requests. Sometimes God fulfills our desires immediately. Sometimes it takes time and we may have to pass through tough situations before achieving it. Sometimes He is working behind the scenes of our trials, yet we can’t see His handiwork, leading us to feel like our prayer has fallen on deaf ears. When we are in the position of waiting for God to act such as to remedy a situation, to heal an illness, to bring a wayward child home, to set right unwanted situation and we don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel, it can overwhelm us and cause unbelief to surface. Like most people, many prayers leave us wondering if we will ever hear an answer in this life.

When God is silent, we are often tempted to doubt His goodness. We are tempted to doubt His promises can really be true. We doubt He will answer our prayers. Scripture brims with stories of God answering prayers that lead his people to marvel at the magnitude of his might and care.

We minimize God to this figure in another dimension that can just give us what we want when we want it.  We are lazy,  we pretend to be busy, we lack a clear plan of how to pray  and have got disbelief in everything.  The elders tell that while praying we should feel that we got the thing done by God.  We should not lose heart and leave in between. We should continue our prayers unless and until we get it.

We may think that God has got no other work than to answer our prayers. Prayer is not a casual one-sided conversation. It is not “back-up insurance” guaranteeing a life free from pain and struggles. Prayer is actively acknowledging God as the source of all power and trusting that His answers, whether expected or unexpected, will accomplish greater things.

When we pray non-stoppingly, definitely God will give a right answer at the right time.

506. You will never find a Rainbow if you are looking down

We may have an idea that we are thinking in the right way.  Charlie Chaplin has quoted that you will never find a rainbow if you are looking down.  Let us see what it means.

He is asking the little girl to look up the sky, while swinging, to see the rainbow and advising her as to not to look down, as there is no rainbow found.  Life may be fearful for anybody. Sometimes rain may come and sometimes sunshine may come. Happiness and sorrow are very common in real life.  That is really a beautiful thing in life for everyone.

We have to look pessimistically  our life. There are so many people living in poor condition than us. God might have given many good opportunities for us to come up. We should not feel bad for anything or for anybody. We have to keep our attitude looking up with our eyes open to see. Then only rainbows will be found.

Sometimes bad luck may chase us wherever we go. We should not get dejected. We have to withstand the storm and they only we can see rainbow in our life. Just like passing clouds, troubles may occur then and there. We have to cross the situation firmly. If we got struck up, there won’t be any progress. Our willpower only helps us to cross the ocean of life.

We should not degrade ourselves for any reason. The people around us may say anything they think. We should know correctly about ourselves. Small drawbacks and mistakes may pull us down. We should not give up our efforts. We should anticipate any worst situation. We should keep alternate plans in mind for success. Then only rainbow will flash in our life.

505. How to be positive in negative situation

Nobody can live happily forever. Tough situations come in everybody’s life. We should always be ready to face any failure or defame.  We should make up our mind to face any negative situation.

If we are surrounded by troubles and discomfort from all sides, we should train our mind to be calm first. We should practice yoga, get good sleep and take rest.  We should have a positive group of people around us to create positive energy. We should not forget to encourage them, when they face tough situations. We should remember and thank the people with us in such situations. Your brain may try to pull you to react harshly but we should retrain our brain not to do so. We can start anything and everything once again from scratch.

Physical and mental exercises keep us fresh and help us to overcome our sorrows.  We should positively accept the defeat and analyse the cause. We have to think about the solution for coming out from the negative situation.  We have to focus on solutions and not on problems. We should try to replace the negative thoughts with positive thoughts. We should not take anything personally and avoid taking any wrong conclusion.

If our mental attitude is positive, we can take positive actions to find a solution.  We should not try to escape from the situation to escape from the problem. Adverse conditions make up a large part of our life as it teaches us how to deal with specific circumstances.  If we had no negative emotions, then  our life will be more colourful. We can make a negative situation into a positive situation.

We should not blame anything or anybody for anything. We should take the responsibility to solve the problem.  If any negative thoughts come in mind at that time, we should be gentle in driving them out from the mind. Others cannot make ourselves to feel negative. If we allow, then only it can happen. So, we have to keep our mind strong.

The optimistic attitude will definitely bring success. Nobody and nothing can stop it. We have to talk to ourselves and encourage ourselves to react positively. We should not think about adversity and failure while putting our efforts to restore. We should be firm and should not listen to any negative thoughts, until we succeed. Go ahead.

500. Life nowadays

Previously, everybody cared about others but nowadays all are self-centered.  So, life has become more stressful than in the past.  In olden days, people considered togetherness as a main pillar of communication that  could be typically maintained as one of the solutions to reduce the sufferer of life. However, nowadays, people frequently have some action out of their home. As a result, the action might increase stress.

“We live only once. So, we have to lead the life happily”. Many people on this earth lead their life based on this statement. People now do not know each other even if these people are their neighbors. Moreover, people in the present have many diseases; these illnesses have not existed in the past. The air that surrounds us have several elements which have chemical substances. Life in the past was a better time to live in because people were closer, had a good health and a clean environment. Women are more independent now because they work. Furthermore, In the past, people married earlier and had more children. But today, there is less communication within the family due to computers and the internet. In a lot of ways life is easier right now than in any other time in history. We have computers, cell phones and devices and gadgets that do some of our work for us. People in general are simple lazier, especially kids.

It is amazing how much the world has changed over the last century. New scientific discoveries and technological advancement have made our life much easier than it used to be in the past. However, the changes have taken place not only in the technology or science but also within a society. Now everybody has got equality and freedom. The life of women has changed a lot and they have entered into all the fields.

We should take a positive path to see the things in the right way, whatever situation comes. Enjoy the life today.

496. American Culture Values

I had been to America thrice from India. I noticed some unique culture values which Americans had.  I was motivated by their independent nature. Every human being respect other’s individuality.  They give way to others privacy and own space. In India, whoever we meet may try to interfere in all our personal matters and they also think that there is nothing wrong in that attitude, as they care for them.

Americans are very proud of being self-reliant, or being able to take care of themselves, and they tend to think others should be self-reliant as well. When someone reaches a goal, that is typically seen as the result of his or her own hard work.  The recommendation does not enter  into the official career.  The children leave home at early  age to look after themselves.

Elders in particular typically need more peace and quiet and may not want to be disturbed. Nobody can start to gossip with them.  This means they often tell you what they think and they will be assertive about what they want. Being assertive is generally seen as a good thing in America. They won’t talk something keeping in mind. They are more expressive.

Americans like to believe the idea that all people should have equal opportunities.  Men and women should be treated equally, and men are not viewed as better than women.   When greeting someone, Americans tend to say, “Hi” or, “Hello.”  Americans can be competitive and often work hard to achieve their goals. Competition often leads Americans to be very busy. Many Americans view competition is a good thing. They value time and efficiency very much.

Really, the above qualities captured my mind and I also wish to follow them.

495.Role of women in changing generations

We know very well that the role of women is very important in all generations.  In the very old days, women took a lead role in the society. After that, gradually women were kept in houses with the remarks that they are fit for household works only and men only can take care of worldly affairs. Now, women started to realise their capability.

Women’s role has changed at an accelerating rate. Now, women have entered in all the tough fields, equal to men.  Women’s impact is due to the fact that they are getting educated sincerely. The women’s rights movement is a good example of how women have come across very strongly, fighting for their political, social and economical status.

In our grandmother period, women were getting married at young age and the married women are not allowed to study in school or college. Next, in our mother period, women got the opportunity to study in school  and some had the chance to study in college also. Some women worked as teachers, nurses and in Government offices. In our generation, women were allowed to study in Engineering and medical colleges. Some more professions are allotted to women. The next generation has come and sky is the limit for them. They can do anything and everything they like.

The gender myth of old where men work and do the hard labour or women stay at home and raise children is becoming a thing of the past. Women have entered in all fields and proved they are fit for all works. The world is changing everyday, every minute, and even every second. Significant generational differences occurred on attitude items relating to sharing of child care, parent care, and household tasks by men and women. Men of present generation are willing to accept this change.

So, even if the role of women in the society has changed in generations, they didnot forget their duty. They discharge it efficiently and smartly. Let us congratulate all women for their duty-consciousness.

474. My vote – My choice

Voting is our right as well as our duty. We should feel privileged to live in a democratic country. It is through our votes that we create our future. If one vote without any responsibility, it will put us into a dark future. One should utilize its right to vote for a right leader which rises above the narrow ideologies of color, caste, religion, and creed.

I  will honour my right & privilege and be a responsible citizen by voting for a leader who is passionate about improving the welfare of the citizens.  But, sometimes we may like the activities of the leader alone, as his partymen would have done something which we may not like. Also, the party which we like may have alliance with another party in which we may not have faith.

We all are also worried about the problems like Corruption, Unemployment, Illiteracy, Increasing crime rate, Terrorism, Poverty and so on. While choosing our leader we should see whether he has got the capacity to solve the above problems. Vote is the biggest weapon for bringing any  change in the society.

Do leaders come from a different planet or are they made up of some superhuman stuff. Obviously not. They are among us, hidden, waiting to come out & make a difference. We should encourage them and help them to come out & succeed. Every vote counts. Though it seems like an endless sea of people are there to vote, every vote counts. When the national attitude changes from thinking “My vote doesn’t make a difference”, then the numbers increase and a multitude of people voting will make the difference. The responsibility lies on every individual.

Voting is the way to express the opinion of a citizen in a democratic nation. Voting is crucial to activating the democratic process. Voting is how we participate in a civic society. It’s the way we teach our children  how to be citizens, and the importance of their voice.
So, let us vote as per our choice.

452. Inspiring Self-Powered Village

Odanthurai-Shanmugam

Odanthurai Gram Panchayat situated 40 kilometers north of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. Everyday we are hearing news about Global warming, depleting natural resources, increasing carbon emissions, soil and water pollution. Self  powered Odanthurai has set an example by producing its own green power for its needs.

The most notable among  Odanthurai’s self-help ventures is the 350-kw wind power generator that was set up in 2006 under the direction of a well functioning gram panchayat.  The Panchayat President  Shanmugam thought, “Why not we set up a wind power project under panchayat ownership? After all a village community is the most legitimate owner of land and wind, the two natural resources that are enough for power generation.” Now, the panchayat has not only been generating electricity for their own use, but also selling power to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).

Though the panchayat faces three hours of power disruption every day, it ensures that drinking water pumping operations and street lighting are not affected, as renewable energy is used for such needs. Streetlights burn in the two hamlets of Vinobhaji Nagar and Kalarpudur even when load shedding is in force, as they are run on solar energy.

Under the Green House Scheme of the State government, the Panchayat has till now built 850 houses and handed over to the real beneficiaries. It is highest record in the State. For his better performance, the people in the panchayat gave an opportunity to Shanmugam as an independent candidate between 1996 and 2006 though he is just 10th qualified. Since the panchayat was reserved for female, people elected Shanmugam’s spouse S Lingammal between 2006 and 2016 without a serious election campaign. Village panchayat presidents, college professors, students, foreign delegates and IAS officers have been visiting the village often, to learn the administrative perspective.

Let us salute Mr. Shanmugam for setting his village a model of inspiring self-powered village.

444. Thailand Cave Rescue

The Moo Pa (Wild Boars)  Soccer Academy team, whose ages range from 11 to 16, became trapped with their 25-year-old coach, Ekaphol Chantawong, inside the six-mile Tham Luang cave in the Doi Nang Non mountain range on 23 June 2018. Nine days later rescue divers located the team sheltering on a ledge surrounded by water. About two miles of narrow, flooded passageways separated their refuge from the main entrance. Efforts to pump water out began immediately as authorities tried to take advantage of a break in monsoon rains.

A daring rescue mission in the treacherous confines of a flooded Thai cave saved all 12 boys and their soccer coach who were trapped deep within the labyrinth. It ended a grueling, 18-day ordeal that claimed the life of an experienced volunteer diver and riveted people around the world.

The four members of the Thai military — one army doctor and three Navy SEAL members — who had stayed with the team for days came out of the cave together. The rescue operation is officially complete. All members of the Wild Boars soccer team and their 25-year-old coach are safe at the Chiang Rai hospital, the authorities said. The boys and their coach are to spend at least a week in the hospital to help protect them from infection, doctors say.

We are also happy and wish them a long life.
